What is a Vi Peel?

A gentle yet powerful medical-grade chemical peel proven to be safe and effective on all skin types and colors. It can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne, acne scarring, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, melasma, rosacea, enlarged pores, and general skin health. Common treatment areas include: face, neck, chest, back, legs, hands, and arms.

The VI Peel has the benefits of traditional chemical peels, but its combination of ingredients yield superior results with less downtime. The VI Peel includes a blend of Trichloroacetic Acid (a.k.a. TCA), Salicylic Acid, Tretinoic Acid, Phenol, Vitamin C and other minerals. When applied to areas of the face or body it safely removes damaged layers of the skin resulting in a smoother, clearer surface that looks youthful and glowing. The peel also promotes collagen production and cellular turnover which helps with skin tone and firmness.

Who is a Candidate?

Candidates for the VI Peel are those with fair to medium skin color who want to improve mild to moderate skin issues, improve acne, and minimize the signs of aging. VI Peel is not recommended for those with darker skin tones because it may cause hyper pigmentation. Dr. Corrado will evaluate your skin to determine if you are a good candidate. If not, he will provide his recommendations on what alternatives are available.

What to Expect When Having a VI Peel

It is recommended you stop using products containing a Retinal (Retin-A) for at least two weeks before your treatment. We will cleanse your face (or neck, chest) to removal oil and dirt. The peel is relatively painless, but for those who are more sensitive may feel a mild to moderate burning sensation. Over the counter pain medication can be taken to minimize discomfort. A topical anesthetic is also an option. The VI solution is applied in two phases. The first penetrates into the skin cells on the skin’s surface, and the second penetrates deeper into the dermis. The treatment time will take anywhere from 20-45 minutes. The solution will stay on for 4-5 hours before you wash it off at home. You can resume your regular daily activities upon leaving our office.

What to Expect After a VI Peel

The chemicals in the VI solution will continue to work even after you have washed your face for a period of 24-48 hours. Your skin will begin to peel around day 3 and continue for a total of 1-3 days. By day 5-6 peeling should be completed. Skin may have red, brown or yellowish tone during the peeling process. Most patients say it looks like they have a mild sunburn that is flaking off. Your skin will more more susceptible to damage from UVA/UVB rays, so we urge you to use a high quality SPF 50. Any chemical peel will make your skin more susceptible to damaging UVA/UVB rays, so the use of sunblock SPF 50 is recommended. VI Peels can be repeated every 3-4 weeks until desired results are achieved. It is also a great peel to have done as part of your ongoing skin maintenance. We recommend having a VI Peel during the fall and spring.

Once your skin has healed from the peel, you should notice improved clarity, tone, and a more luminous glow.
